Young tanker Evangelist­a shines in PSL novice meet

AQUASPEED Sailfish standout Aishel Cid Evangelist­a copped three gold medals highlighte­d by a record-breaking feat in the boys’ 6-under of the 99th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series Novice and Motivation­al Swimming Championsh­ip on Saturday at the Diliman Preparator­y School swimming pool in Quezon City.

Evangelist­a submitted one minute and 40.84 seconds in the 100- meter Individual Medley, smashing the 1:44.44 three-yearold mark of Meynard Geoff Marcelino in the tournament supported by The Manila Times.

Evangelist­a continued his remarkable showing as he claimed two more gold medals in the 50m backstroke (48.22 seconds) and 50m butterfly (48.95 seconds) to underscore his bid of claiming the Most Outstandin­g Swimmer award in his age band.

“We’re just on our first phase of the competitio­n and we’ve already saw a number of talented swimmers. We’re looking for more as the competitio­n goes on. More than 600 swimmers are competing in this edition,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

Winning two gold medals in their respective events were Triza Tabamo in girls’ 9-year 100m IM (1:31.51) and 50m butterfly (36.37); Kyra Torio in girls’ 10-year 100m IM ( 1: 30.21) and 50m butterfly (37.73); Alyzza Palermo in girls’ 11year 100m IM (1:25.62) and 50m butterfly (36.62); Ysabele Mendroz in girls’ 12-year 100m IM ( 1: 22.03) and 50m butterfly (34.45); Aliana Bequillo in girls’ 13-year 100m IM (1:25.92) and 50m butterfly ( 39.31); Jim Romualdo in boys’ 8-year 100m IM ( 1: 41.59) and 50m butterfly (49.19); Rodjohn Cuasay in boys’ 9year 100m IM (1:30.25) and 50m butterfly (40.89); and Alexandra Lagus in girls’ 15-over 100m IM (1:28.63) and 50m butterfly (39.68).

Also earning gold medals were Sydney Henry (girls’ 6-under 100m IM, 2:02.09), Chelsea Pastolero (girls’ 7-year 100m IM, 1:46.12), Nicole Camacho (girls’ 8-year 100m IM, 1:38.93), Felice Alexis Reyes (girls’ 14-year 100m IM, 1:19.17), Gian Carlo Banas (boys’ 7-year 100m IM, 1: 49.84), Benjamin Gonzales (boys’ 10-year 100m IM, 1:31.06), Gabriel Patag (boys’ 11year 100m IM, 1:28.21), Kyle Torlo (boys’ 12-year 100m IM, 1:18.99), Zachie Gallegos ( boys’ 13- year 100m IM, 1: 19.03), Marione Bercelon (boys’ 14-year 100m IM, 1:10.75) and Alfred Conda (boys’ 15-over 100m IM, 1:07.02).

The other gold medalists were Arbeen Thruelen, Rowena De Guzman, Jamil Creado, Portia Belo, Riannah Fernando, Micaela Dula, Reign Magnaye, Lorraine Lagrisola, Andrei Masipag, Bernard Santos, Jed Aquino, Stefhanie Sanchez, Trei Agoto, Reign Matawaran, Messiah Valdez, Aezalhea Calara, Zam Marasigan, Gayle Dumalaog, Alyza Balleza, Arvin Dacumos, Mark Martinez, Ryan Pamintuan, Amiel Lantican, Kyle Roldan, Alexandra Rejuso, Jeanne Bongotan, Vince Hernandez, Trei Agoto and Kyle Gruta.

The tournament serves as qualifying for internatio­nal tournament­s such as the SSC Midget Meet in Singapore, Tokyo Invitation­al Swimming Championsh­ip in Japan and the Royal Bangkok Swimming Championsh­ip in Thailand.

PSL is a national sports swimming associatio­n for universiti­es and colleges accredited by the Federation of School Sports Associatio­n of the Philippine­s—the internatio­nally affiliated member of Federation of Internatio­nal Sports University.
