DOST launches Starbooks, holds science writeshop

THE Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is launching library in a box that stands for Science and Technology Academic - ated Kiosk Station.

Developed by the DOST’s Science and Technology Informatio­n Institute (STII), the Starbooks is a user-friendly informatio­n portal that can be accessed without Internet connection. It contains local and foreign S&T resources in text, video, and audio formats including journals, investigat­ive materials, and livelihood videos, covering a diverse range of topics. The portal is now being deployed nationwide in schools, municipal other entities for free. The partnerpro­ponents will only shoulder the computers and kiosks and STII will provide the content and training of librarians.

Meanwhile, STII held the Science Journalism Writeshop at the DOST Complex in Taguig City as part of the National Science and Technology Week celebratio­n.

The seminar aimed to train and impart knowledge to future science journalist­s, enhancing their appreciati­on of science communicat­ion and journalism, and the importance of science to social and economic developmen­t.
