Nagaowa blasts Japanese foe in WSOF

FILIPINA mixed martial arts ( MMA) fighter Jujeath Nagaowa successful­ly wave the country’s flag after defeating Japanese Yuko Kiryu in the World Series of Fighting - Global Championsh­ip on Saturday at the Araneta Coliseum.

The 28-year-old Nagaowa of Baguio City subdued Kiryu via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

”I am very happy that I got this win. This is for all the fight fans who supported us and to my fellow Filipino fighters also,” said Nagaowa.

Besides Nagaowa, other Filipino in the card were not successful in their respective bids.

Rising Filipino sensation Mario Sismundo was derailed by China’s Keremuaili Maimaititu­oheti after an intense see-saw battle.

The Chinese fighter kept the upper hand in the second round with a rear-naked choke.

Sismundo fell to 3-2 card while Maimai improved to 6-3.

Ahmed “The Wolverine” Mujtaba successful­ly his Undergroun­d Battle MMA featherwei­ght title against Pinoy Neil Larano (2-1) with a triangle choke in one minute and eight seconds of round one.

In the swing bout, Jenelyn Olsim succumbed to Nayara Hemily of Brazil with a rear-naked choke in the second round while Malaysia’s Kelvin Ong defeated Philippine­s’ Jessdan Dela Pena via technical knockout in the second round.

Meanwhile, Evgeny Erokhin (15-4) of Russia earned his first title defense when he made a thunderous knockout against Richard Odoms (113), whom he sent into canvas during the 1:11 mark after the opening bell of the main event.

In other bouts, Lawrence DiGiulio (18-8) defeated Marcel Adur (11-5) via split decision, Yusaku Nakamura (13-4) of Japan trounced Tim Moore (10-6) of Auatralia via unanimous decision while Uloomi Karim (6-3) of Pakistan beat Yadwinder Singh (5-1) of India’s also via unanimous decision. Katherine Roy (1-0) of US won via unanimous decision against May Ooi (2-2) of Singapore.
