Pinays end AFF campaign with win over Singapore

THE Philippine women’s national football team ended its campaign a win over Singapore, 2-0, on Saturday in the Asean Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Championsh­ip at the Mandalarth­iri Stadium in Myanmar.

The Philippine­s came out strong at the start of the meeting as University of the Philippine­s standout Cristina De Los Reyes found the back of the net in the fifth minute.

Leading by a goal in the early minutes of the first half, the Filipinas stood strong on the defensive end to prevent their foes from scoring until the halftime break.

The Filipinas continued their impressive form in the second half as Camille Wilson left her markers for a shot on goal in the 50th minute.

Both teams exchange blows towards the dying minutes of the ball game with the resilient Pinays dictating the pace but no additional goals were sank until the end of regulation.

The Philippine­s ended the AFF Championsh­ip with a record of a win and two losses in in Group A.

The Philippine­s debuted with a 0- 4 loss against titleholde­rs Thailand on July 26.

Thai striker Pitsamai Sornsai cashed in two goals in the contest while teammates Kanjana Sungngoen and Rattikan Thongsombu­t scored a one tally each.

The Filipinas suffered their second defeat at the hands of the tough Vietnamese side, 0-4, on July 28.

Tuyet Dong made things miserable for the Philippine­s with her brace performanc­e together with the lone efforts of Nguyen Thi Hoa and Minh Nguyet.
