DRUG KILLING GREETS ‘ BATO’S’ FIRST CORDILLERA VISIT

An unknown gunman riding a motorcycle shot Dante Viduya who died on Wednesday morning at Bagumbayan Street in Barangay Salud Mitra here. Senior Supt. George Daskeo, city police director, said Viduya is on a drug watch list. Witnesses said the victim was seen running on the street toward the Andres Bonifacio museum and fell in front of the University of Baguio after gunshots rang out. He died while being treated at the hospital. The shooting occurred as the Philippine National Police chief, Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa prepared to meet hundreds of drug surrendere­rs in Camp Bado Dangwa, the regional police’s headquarte­rs in the Cordillera, on Friday. More than one thousand have surrendere­d since July 1 while over a dozen have been killed in anti- drug operations in various provinces in the Cordillera including Baguio. The city’s 128 villages were earlier tagged as drug- affected by the police.
