SAN JUAN MAYOR SEEKS CLARIFICATION ON SUSPENSION OF CITY OFFICIALS
SAN JUAN CITY (Metro Manila) Mayor Guia Gomez sought clarification from the Sandiganbayan's Fifth Division on the implementation of its preventive suspension order against City Administrator Ranulfo Dacalos and City Legal Officer Romualdo de los Santos, along with Sen. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and Lorenza Ching pending litigation of a graft case and several others in connection with the allegedly anomalous purchase of firearms for P2.1 million in 2008 when Ejercito was the mayor. In a letter filed on Wednesday, Gomez informed the court that Ching is no longer connected with the city government as of August 1, 2016. “With respect to Ranulfo B. Dacalos and Romualdo C. de los Santos, I respectfully request a clarification on the implementation of the order given that the 15-day period for them to file a Motion for Reconsideration has not yet expired and in light of my receipt of copy of the Petition for Certiorari filed by them,” Gomez said.
3RD GRENADE ATTACK HITS COTABATO CITY
COTABATO CITY: day afternoon. It was the 3rd grenade attack on a government office since Saturday. Senior Insp. Roel Zafra, city police office spokesman, said an M26-A9 fragmentation hand grenade fell into a drainage canal and went off. No one was reported hurt. Police said two motorcycle-riding men lobbed the grenade. On Saturday night, a smoke grenade was lobbed at the Traffic Management Unit office beside Police Station 1 detention cell, meant to cover detainees to escape the jampacked jail. On Monday, another grenade was thrown at the roof of Police Station 2 on Sinsuat and Rabago avenues. It did not explode.
SUSPECT IN BULACAN VICE MAYOR’S MURDER NABBED
THE primary suspect in the killing of the former vice mayor of Pandi, Bulacan, in April was arrested inside an E-Game online casino in Barangay Poblacion, San Ildefonso town in Bulacan on Wednesday. Senior Supt. Romeo Caramat Jr. said Ariel Lorenzana, 36, of Barangay Pinaod, San Ildefonso was also facing a murder case allegedly committed in December 2013. Supt. Marlon Santos, assistant provincial director for administration, said Lorenzana was a member of a gun-for-hire syndicate and alleged member of CNN (Communist/ National Democratic Front/ New People’s Army) operating in some provinces in Central Luzon such as Bulacan, Bataan, Pampanga and Nueva Ecija. He was tagged responsible for shooting dead former Pandi Vice Mayor Roberto Rivera on April 18.
