‘Superstar Duets’ is newest celebrity contest
Allan K Aicelle Santos WITH stars in competition always making waves in the ratings game, GMA Network is set to premiere an original concept on September 3 via
A first on local TV, the show features eight celebrities and “surprise international superstars” every Saturday night for a singing showdown.
Tasked to host the program is Jennylyn Mercado, with a panel of judges comprised of comedian/ TV host Allan K, singing sensation Aicelle Santos, and Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista.
At the show’s press launch on Tuesday, Mercado said what makes
different from other singing contests is its comedy/talent show concept.
“It’s going to be fun what with witty and funny celebrities Mike ‘Pekto’ Nacua, Joross Gamboa, Jerald Napoles, Rita Daniela, Denise Barbacena, Nar Cabico, Divine Grace and Osang as the eight contestants,” said the blockbuster star. “Add to that the surprise superstars they will duet with from episode to episode, Christian Bautista and the mix of judges in Allan K, Aicelle and Christian, viewers will definitely get a balance of good music and good comedy in the program.”
Asked what they are looking for in eventual winner, Allan K remarked, “It will have to be about team work so I’m looking for the contestant who knows how to blend voices, and how to interact with the other singer.”
As a singer himself, Bautista said it is important for the contestant to make a connection in every performance. “I know these artists are going to do everything they can in the show, so I’m looking for that someone who will move me when they sing.”
Santos finally agrees with co- judge Allan K that bleeding is important as well as a performance that is very entertaining. “I think it’s a mix of these two factors both judges and audiences will look for.”
