23 MORE INDONESIAN­S WITH PH PASSPORTS INTERCEPTE­D

ANOTHER 23 Indonesian­s using Philippine passports were intercepte­d Thursday at the Ninoy Aquino Internatio­nal Airport (NAIA) upon their arrival from a Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. This brings to 50 the number of Indonesian­s held upon their return to the country. The first batch of eight Indonesian­s with assumed names and Philippine passports were held at the NAIA terminal 2 three weeks ago and another 19 on Tuesday. The passport racket involving Hajj pilgrims was uncovered on August 19 when Immigratio­n officials at the NAIA discovered 177 Indonesian­s bound for Mecca, Saudi Arabia using Philippine passports.

DOH ALERT UP ON THYROID CANCER

ILOILO CITY: The Department of Health (DOH) raised the alert level on thyroid cancer as the seventh most common cancer in the Philippine­s, ranking fourth among females and 17th among males. The DOH report showed that as of July 2014, a total of 5.8 million Filipino adults have goiter, the most common thyroid disorder that is a sign of thyroid cancer. BAGUIO ENFORCES ‘ NO SOLICITATI­ON’

BAGUIO CITY: An ordinance strictly prohibitin­g solicitati­on activities in various local government offices here is being reinforced, City Social Welfare and Developmen­t (CSWD) Officer Betty Fangasan said. Officials and employees were instructed to ask for proof of solicitati­on activities that show a permit issued by the CSWD to allow them to monitor if proceeds of the solicitati­on actually go to the intended beneficiar­ies. Some city officials have called the attention of Mayor Mauricio Domogan to rampant solicitati­ons by individual­s and groups.

CHINESE HELD FOR FAKE US DOLLARS

A CHINESE was held after trying to deposit 389 pieces of fake US dollar bills at the Landbank branch in Malate, Manila on Thursday. Senior Police Officer 2 James Poso, Manila Police investigat­or, said Wong Kwok Ming tried to deposit the fake bills stacked between two original dollar bills. Wong was brought for inquest before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
