THE Philippine Squash Academy ( PSA) Open Squash Championship slated on November 25 to 27 at the Manila Polo Club will be sanctioned by the Professional Squash Association, the world governing body for the sport.

PSA President Robert Bachmann said that this is the first time a PSA event will be tagged a World Tour event.

The PSA will hold the first PSA World Tour Men’s Closed Satellite M1 event on top of regular PSA Open events during the tournament. The PSA Open event features Division 1 to 3, masters and juniors categories.

“Hopefully, it will attract more world ranking players to visit and compete in the Philippines,” said Bachmann in an interview with The Manila Times on Saturday.

The Closed Satellite M1 event will have a prize purse of $ 1,000. The champion will receive $ 500 plus 20 ranking points while the first and second runners- up will take home $ 300 plus 14 points and $ 200 plus nine points, respectively.

The draw size for the M1 event will be limited to 16 players, and a random draw method will be used.
