Entering the world of ‘Outsider Art’
IT was Jean Dubuffet's original term for art works that he collected and revered; later adopted by the Collection de l'Art Brut at Lausanne. Art Brut means “Raw Art,” “Outsider Art”.
Dubuffet characterized art brut as, "works created from solitude and from pure and authentic creative impulses – where the worries of competition, acclaim and social promotion do not interfere and because of these very facts, more precious than the productions of professionals.”
Dubuffet argued that is mainstream Art culture managed to assimilate every new development in art, and by doing so took away whatever power it might have had. Art brut was his solution to this problem.
The purest of Art Brut/Outsider Art creators would not consider themselves artists, nor would they even feel that they were producing art at all.
Art Brut is visual creation at its purest - a spontaneous - plistic and fresh.
It might not be attractively drawn with great draftsmanship but it is Art and it is gaining popularity around the world. years and continues to do so as mainstream collectors begin to see the value in collecting these challenging beautiful Art Works.
Fortunately, the Galeria de las Isla is very excited to introduce Outsider Art with artists Jimmy Leon, Mark Herandez, Austin, Kramo and AYA in "Outsider Art Exhibition." The exhibit will open on December 10, 5 p.m. in Galeria de las Islas,
