Letran honors top alumni
TESTAMENTS of excellence.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran will be honoring its exceptional alumni who have made their mark in their respective fields in this year’s Letran Awards, which will be held at the New World Hotel Makati on March 23, 2017.
The 2017 Letran Awards is a night of recognition, celebrating the impact of the Colegio’s alumni in the industries they are in, putting premium to the fact that they have manifested the ideals that forge the character of a true Letranite – love for God, country, and Alma Mater.
Awardees stand as shining examples for generations of Letranites who have the chance to maximize their capabilities, strive for excellence, and contribute to the well- being of the place they inhabit and thrive in.
There are five categories in the Letran Awards: the Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero Award (Letranism Award), the Knights of Letran Award (Outstanding Professional), the Pres. Manuel L. Quezon Award (Government Service Award), the Fray Diego de Sta. Maria Award ( Public Service Award), and the San Vicente Liem de la Paz Award ( Most Distinguished Alumnus Award).
True to the essence of what Letran and the Awards stand for, the roster of alumni who will be receiving recognition is definitely one that is full of inspiring achievements and exemplary character.
To receive the Knights of Letran Award are Arch. Carmelo Casas, Managing Partner of Casas Architects; Antonio Tuviera, owner of APT Entertainment and producer of noontime show ‘ Eat Bulaga’; Dr. Henry Lim Bon Liong, chairman and CEO of Sterling Paper Group Companies; Jaime Bautista, president and COO of Philippine Airlines; Dr. Gregorio Andaman, Jr., COO and hospital administrator of St. Dominic Hospital; and Fr. Rogelio Alarcon, OP, the former rector of Letran and Angelicum.
Recipients of the Don Juan Geronimo Guerrero Award are Jose Maria Aligada, member of Letran’s Board of Trustees and president of the Letran Alumni Foundation, Inc.; Charlie Yu, the founder of Grupo de Fil- Chinos; and William Uy, who donated classrooms for the Colegio’s San Vicente Ferrer Building.
Former La Union Vice Governor Mary Jane Ortega will be given the Pres. Manuel L. Quezon Award while Dr. Ibarra Panopio of the Rotary International District 3860 will receive the Fray Diego de Sta. Maria Award.
Finally, Hon. Tobias Enverga, the first Filipino to be appointed to the Senate of Canada, will be bestowed the San Vicente Liem de la Paz Award.
Also to be recognized during the Letran Awards are the Grandes Figuras, or the 400 Men and Women of Letran, an initiative of the institution for its Quadricentennial Celebration, which will be celebrated in 2020.
Colegio de San Juan de Letran is a Dominicanrun school that was established in 1620 and has since become a standard of academic excellence in the country. It has produced a saint, men of cloth, government officials, business professionals, heroes, and legends.
