MANILA Asia’s next global city

MAYOR Joseph Ejercito Estrada believes that Manila will be able to bring back the former glory of the City of Manila with the help of his constituen­ts and the leaders of the city.

“The City of Manila has gone a long way from being a ‘Pearl of the Orient’ and ‘Paris of Asia’ to a highly urbanized Global City. Together, we will celebrate our 446th Foundation Day with a vision of bringing back our beloved city’s former glory and beauty,” Estrada said during the opening of the 446th anniversar­y celebratio­n of Manila on June 18.

The mayor continued, “In the next years to come, I am sure the City of Manila will continue to realize gains in economy, education, employment, health, and housing, among others, because we have proven that we can work together.”

Also on the same day, an outdoor exhibit called “Balik-Tanaw sa Maynila” along Baywalk, Roxas Blvd was launched. The three-day exhibit from June 19 to 21 gave the public an experience of what the city looked like during the early 19th century.

The next day, June 20, Outstandin­g Educators received awards. At about 6pm, Outstandin­g Judges, Prosecutor­s and Policemen were awarded at the Manila Hotel.

On June 21, Patnubay ng Sining awarding ceremonies was held at the Bulwagang Villegas followed by an awarding ceremonies for Outstandin­g Barangay Officials at The Manila Hotel.

Today, June 24, a Thanksgivi­ng Mass will be held at San Agustin Church at 8 a.m.
