Ex-NBA All-Star Theus graces basketball clinic
FORMER National Basketball Association (NBA) coach Reggie Theus spearheaded the NBA Cares basketball clinic on Wednesday at the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) College of Engineering court in Pureza, Manila.
More than 40 students, ages 10 to 14 years old, joined the clinic conducted by two-time NBA All Star Theus and Jr. NBA Philippines head coach Cris Sumner.
The clinic aims to develop and teach children the fundamental skills of basketball including defense and shooting.
“I am excited to teach these kids who really has the passion for basketball. This is a great opportunity for them to learn and keep on improving themselves,” said Theus.
Theus stressed that fun is essential to learning.
“It’s important that we always have fun in what we do. The opportunity to be successful is inside of each of you. So, keep working hard,” he advised.
NBA Philippines through its NBA Cares initiative formally inaugurated its newest NBA Cares basketball court during the event.
Theus and PUP president Emmanuel De Guzman witnessed the turnover ceremony.
De Guzman said that the refurbished court would complement the school’s holistic goal for students.
Meanwhile, Theus along with Oklahoma City Thunder’s Steven Adams and the Lakers Girls will banner the NBA 3X Philippines on July 22 and 23 at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
The event will feature 3x3 tournament for men’s and women’s teams.
The 3x3 challenge includes divisions for boys (under-13, U16, U18 and open category), girls ( U16 and open), an invitation only celebrity division as well as a new division for the employees and distributors of AXA Philippines, the event’s sponsor.
