AYALA- LED Globe Telecom recently launched TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017, a program specifically designed to give underprivileged youth a chance to improve their lives and reach their dreams through sports.

The program is spearheaded by Globe TM, the fastest growing mobile brand in terms of customer base with over 29.4 million customers and counting. TM is Globe Telecom’s value brand offering which has gained popularity due to its very affordable text and call promo offers.

Globe announced the partnership with content and consumer firm Astro Malaysia Holdings Berhad ( Astro) and its regional overthe- top ( OTT) streaming service Tribe for the second straight year.

The tie- up will allow talented Filipino kids to get a chance to join the Astro Kem Bola Advanced Training Program in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and, potentially, the Overseas Training Camp in Barcelona, Spain by coaches from FC Barcelona Football Academy ( FCBEscola) later this year.

“We are happy to take our sports outreach program beyond Malaysia to provide talented kids within the region an avenue to achieve their dreams,” said Iskandar Samad, chief executive officer of Tribe, subsidiary of Astro.

“We want to use the power of sports to instill the importance of having good values and create opportunities for higher learning especially for kids who may have no means to pursue their desired careers,” said Ray Guinoo, Globe Director for TM Portfolio and Brand Management.

TM Sports Para sa Bayan 2017 will revolve around football, basketball, and volleyball.

For football, Globe has tapped the services of Green Archers United ( GAU), a professional football league which has been the company’s implementing partner in developing the football grassroots program in the last four years.

Globe also partnered with select grassroots football organizations such as Dream Big Pilipinas ( Metro Manila), Fundacion Santiago ( Vigan, Ilocos Sur and San Carlos City, Negros Occidental), and Fundlife International ( Palo, Leyte).

The three non- profit organizations all conduct free football clinics, tutoring sessions, and values formation sessions to kids in underprivileged communities, conflict areas, or disasteraffected provinces.

TM Sports Para Sa Bayan completed its run in Metro Manila and Tacloban in June and will be conducting the program at the San Carlos Football Field in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on July 29.

The TM Sports Para sa Bayan basketball program will kick off within the third quarter of 2017 and will consist of free basketball clinics for boys and girls in key cities nationwide.
