‘Gorio’ intensifie­s, to dump more rain

METRO Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas will continue to have rains Thursday as Tropical Depression Gorio intensifie­d into a storm on Wednesday, according to the weather bureau.

Classes in all levels were cancelled in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon and Parañaque, while classes in pre- school to high school were called off in the cities of Quezon, Navotas and Valenzuela.

The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Valenzuela, University of the East - Caloocan City and Valenzu- ela City Polytechni­c College also suspended classes.

Metro Manila was drenched by the downpour that started Tuesday night and continued until Wednesday.

The weather bureau said “Gorio” will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing heavy rains in Luzon and Visayas.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the storm was spotted 615 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

The monsoon rain will affect Metro Manila, Ilocos, Cordillera, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa ( Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan).

The Department of Education advised parents to monitor news reports on the suspension of classes.
