Sec Briones urges creation of local museums

IN her speech during the ceremonies commemorat­ing the completion of the National Museum of Natural History (NMNH), Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones encouraged local government units (LGUs) and stakeholde­rs to set up museums in their localities to reach out to all learners in the country.

The Education chief was the guest of honor, together with former president Fidel V. Ramos, during September 30.

“My only wish, and I suppose it all our 27 million learners somehow have an opportunit­y to visit this set Briones shared after applauding the structure which she described as beautiful and impressive.

“I noticed that the National Museum is helping local government­s, and I hope some of our friends and benefactor­s will think about it, and set up their own local museums,” she added.

A gift to the education sector

Secretary Briones also expressed her gratitude that the museum, which will serve as a preeminent center of education, science and culture, is not charging fees.

Secretary Briones noted that DepEd is only one of the institutio­nal stakeholde­rs of the National Museum, especially the NMNH.
