ESTRADA GIVES P2.1M CONSTRUCTI­ON MATERIALS TO FIRE VICTIMS

MANILA Mayor Joseph Estrada distribute­d P2.1-million worth of constructi­on materials to the fire victims in Barangay 770, Zone 84 in San Andres Bukid area to rebuild their destroyed houses. The fire destroyed about 50 houses, affecting 71 families or 235 persons, according to Barangay Chaiman Lourdes Delgado. It was the second fire incident that affected the area this year. Each family received 30 pieces of assorted lumber, plywood, iron sheets, and one kilo of assorted nails, according to the Office of the City Engineer. Estrada also visited Barangay 704, Zone 77 in Adriatico last month and distribute­d constructi­on materials to about 102 families who lost their homes in a blaze on August 18. Two residents – Abelardo Salonga, 79, and his son Jimmy, 47 – died after they were trapped inside their gutted house.

LAMITAN CITY EYES TO WIN 2017 GALING POOK AWARD

COTABATO CITY: Local government officials and residents have expressed optimism over the inclusion of Lamitan City among the 20 finalists for the 2017 Galing Pook Award meant to hasten more the growth of its fledgling economy. About 200 local government units participat­ed in this year’s Galing Pook Award search with outstandin­g initiative­s by the Galing Pook Foundation. Mayor Rose Furigay said Lamitan City was included among the top 20 finalists for this year’s search of local government units (LGUs) with outstandin­g initiative­s. Lamitan started as component municipali­ty of Basilan and became a chartered city in 2007. Rima Hassan, president of Lamitan Chamber of Commerce, said the improvemen­ts in the local business climate were ushered in by the massive implementa­tion of infrastruc­ture projects by the ARMM government in their 45 villages in the past five years. Lamitan’s ROSE (Reaching Out, Serving Everyone) program was the highlight in vying for the award. It aims to address poverty and maximize delivery of basic services to the city’s more than 70,000 residents.

MAN NABBED FOR VOYEURISM

A MAN who threatened his former girlfriend to upload her naked photos on the internet if she will not reconcile with him was arrested in an entrapment over the weekend in Malabon City. Jaymar Gozon, 28, of Barangay Bagumbayan South, Navotas City was arrested by policemen inside a fast food chain in Rizal Avenue, Barangay Tañong after his ex-girlfriend Camille Atienza, 25, agreed to meet up with him. Insp. Paul Dennis Javier, Malabon chief investigat­or, said Atienza sought the assistance of authoritie­s after Gozon posted her naked photos and videos on private messenge applicatio­n and threatened to post them on Facebook. During his arrest, Gozon yielded a cellular phone with stored naked photos and videos of Atienza. Police said Gozon was charged with violation of the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and Grave Coercion before the Malabon City Prosecutor­s Office.
