Australia vows support to fight vs terror
AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull vowed on Monday to support the Philippines in its fight against terrorism.
Turnbull said the threat brought by terrorism, particularly coming from the Islamic State (IS), was a “global one.”
“They ( IS) developed a reputation, they were able to present an image of invincibility which was enormously helpful to them in terms of propaganda and recruiting,” Turnbull pointed out.
“We cannot afford to let them have a foothold anywhere else, let alone in our region,” he added, citing what happened in Marawi City.
He said most of the IS terrorists have been “propelled” in Marawi City “were from all over the world.”
“They come from Indonesia or Malaysia. They have been to the Middle [East], some of them were Arabs from the Middle East, it is a global fight,” Turnbull said.
He also lauded President Rodrigo Duterte and the Armed Forces of the Philippines for ending the crisis quickly.
