‘ NAPPING’ SHIPYARD WORKER FALLS TO DEATH
SUBIC BAY FREEPORT: A worker of Hanjin shipyard at the Redondo Peninsula here died after falling about 60 feet from the top of a cargo tank he was working on in another accident that shipyard management described as the result of the victim doing unauthorized activity during working hours. Shipbuilder Jerome Cenas, from Butuan City, was rushed to the Baypointe Hospital across Redondo Peninsula here for treatment but died the following day. A report by Hanjin management, a copy of which was shown to The Manila Times, said Cenas was possibly resting or lying down on the scaffold after finishing his task earlier than scheduled. It added that there was insufficient supervision by the person in- charge. The work assignment of the unit is to grind the under deck and some areas at the bottom of cargo tank 5 until 5 p.m. Cenas and another coworker, Hargen Joniega, finished their work at about 3 p.m. and their next task was supposed to be given at 6 p.m. for overtime work. Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority officials said its Law Enforcement Department is conducting its own investigation of the accident.
ARMM 19 TOWNS, 1 CITY GET GOOD GOVERNANCE AWARDS
COTABATO CITY: Local government executives in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) are delighted with Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) they received recently for 19 municipalities and one city. Last year, only six of the region’s over a hundred LGUs were given recognition. “This is the result of our hard work and commitment in order to provide better services to our constituents,” said Mayor Hanie Bud of Maluso in Basilan, which received its first good governance award this year. This achievement is the latest in a series of breakthroughs the regional government has achieved in recent years under the Regional Gov. Mujiv Hataman. These include passing the national Good Governance Conditions at the regional level in 2015 for the first time in the ARMM’s history. The town of Parang, Maguindanao has been consistent in receiving awards, getting good governance recognition from 2011 to 2014, according to Mayor Ibrahim Ibay. All LGUs conferred the SGLG this year will also receive a cash reward. This is also a good year for the prov- ince of Basilan, the first time that two of its municipalities, Maluso and Sumisip, received recognition as well as Lamitan City. Other awardees are Calanogas, Kapatagan and Piagapo in Lanao del Sur; Barira, Buldon, Datu Abdullah Sangki, Datu Paglas, Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun, Kabuntalan, Matanog, Parang, Rajah Buayan, Sultan Kudarat, Sultan Mastura and Upi in Maguindanao; and Jolo and Talipao in Sulu.
STOLEN MOTORCYCLES SEIZED IN CAVITE
CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna: A suspected fence and car thief was arrested during a raid in his separate hideouts in Cavite where at least six motorcycles were recovered on Tuesday. Supt Peter Dionisio, regional chief of Highway Patrol Group – Region 4A, identified the suspect as Gabriel Dones. Dionisio said composite teams of regional police and Cavite Police stations raided two hideouts of Dones at Monteverde Subd., Barangay Mulawin in Tanza town and at Olimpo Compound, Barangay 1896 in Gen. Trias and six undocumented motorcycles, assorted spareparts and one engine block which is included in the alarm/wanted list. Dones’ arrest was based on the search warrant was issued by Judge Agripino Morga of San Pablo City Regional Trial Court for violations of The New Anti- Carnapping Act of 2016 and Presidential Decree 1612 or Anti Fencing Law of 1979.
SUSPECT IN TWO MURDERS ARRESTED IN TARLAC
CAMP MACABULOS, Tarlac City: A 20-year-old suspect in two separate murders was arrested recently by authorities during a manhunt Arrested was Nelson Almoite of Sapang Maragul in this city identified behind the killing of Christina Esteban, 21 years old, and a native of Agusan del Sur, and Henry Allied, 29, of Barangay Motrico in La Paz, Tarlac. Both victims were found to have sustained multiple stabs in the body that resulted in their death. Esteban’s body was found at Sitio Pacquillao in Barangay Care, Tarlac City, on November 8 with 22 stabs in different parts of the body and a wound on her nape while Allied’s was found along an irrigation road in Barangay Tibag, also this city,on November 10. Recovered from Almoite were the murder weapon (a butterfly knife), Esteban’s cellphone and Allied’s handbag containing personal belongings. It was learned that prior to his arrest, Almoite had pending cases of robbery hold-up and rape in Angeles City.
