EX- MARINE KILLED IN NAVOTAS AMBUSH

A FORMER member of the Philippine Marines was killed while a police officer and an electricia­n were wounded during an ambush staged by four suspects riding two motorcycle­s in Navotas on Sunday night. Dead at the Tondo Medical Center from multiple gunshot wounds was Philip Panelo, 39, while treated for gunshot wounds from stray bullets were Police Officer 2 Clemencio Santos, 42, detailed at Navotas Police station and Danilo Montances, 54, of Block 7, Lot 40, Barangay NBBS. Panelo was walking at about 9 p.m. along Barangay NBBS when the suspects fired shots at him. Santos who happened to be in the area responded and traded shots with the suspects but was hit on his leg. His service firearm was thrown several meters away and picked up by one of the suspects before fleeing.

COTABATO WELCOMES OPENING OF MM- BASED SUPERMARKE­T

COTABATO CITY: The opening of new business establishm­ents here by a Metro Manila-based chain of department stores and supermarke­ts was welcomed by Mayor Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi and the residents. Last Friday, the mayor led the inaugural opening of the Robinsons Department Store and Robinsons Supermarke­t housed at the Mall of Alnor Complex. Samson Gogo, an aide of Guiani-Sayadi, said the mayor urged the Robinsons Group of Companies, as a business giant to expand its business in this booming city of the south. Guiani-Sayadi assured Robina Gokongwei, senior vice president and Group General Manager of the Robinsons Retail Group, of the safety and security of their businesses here, citing the improving peace and order condition. BEGGAR KILLS TEEN FOR REFUSING TO GIVE ALMS

A BEGGAR allegedly stabbed dead a teenager who refused to give him money in San Andres, Manila. Senior Police Officer 4 Glenzor Vallejo of the Manila Police District, Homicide Section, identified the victim as Gemuel Rebugio, 15, of Radium Compound. His body was found along Osmena Highway, in front of Safari Condo Building 3, with stab wounds in the chest. Vallejo said the victim and his friends were sleeping in a parked jeepney when the beggar arrived and asked for alms. But the beggar, after told by the victims they have no money, pointed a knife at them saying he also wanted to sleep in the jeepney. William Shayne Maxilom, one of the victim’s friends, claimed they immediatel­y left the jeepney, leaving the victim and the suspect alone.

LAGUNA PNP NABS 2 CAR THIEVES

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna: Police have arrested two suspected thieves in connection with two robbery incidents here last week. Senior Police Officer 1 Nicanor Panghulan said that cases of theft were filed with the Chief City prosecutor Miguel Noel Ocampo last Friday against Marlon Toledo Imperial, of Barangay Uno, and a certain Nick, a minor of Barangay Halang, both in Calamba City. The suspects were arrested after they forced open the victims’ car parked outside a fast- food establishm­ent in Barangay Uno and took several personal items including high- end smart phones, iPad, passport and identifica­tion cards. The minor was turned over to the City Social Service and Youth Developmen­t Office after the inquest procedure.
