Maynilad to build new sewer lines for P10B

WEST Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. is earmarking more than P10 billion to install 183.6 kilometers of sewer lines within the next five years as part of its bid to improve water services in its concession areas.

Maynilad said on Monday the new sewer lines will be located in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, and Las Piñas, Brgy. Poblacion in Muntinlupa City, and Kawit, Cavite.

The installation of the new sewer lines will commence in the second half of 2018. The facilities will catch wastewater generated by about 2 million customers in the area and convey this to sewage treatment plants (STP) for proper treatment.

Targeted to be finished by 2022, “the improved wastewater infrastructure will allow Maynilad to convey wastewater to STPs in the area with a combined treatment capacity of 320 million liters of wastewater per day,” it said.

“Maynilad knows the utmost importance of maintaining the health of communities and the environment through proper wastewater management,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito Fernandez said.

Maynilad, the country’s largest private water concessionaire in terms of customer base, is currently laying sewer lines in Brgy. Cupang and Brgy. Tunasan in Muntinlupa City, Parañaque City, and Valenzuela City.

As of this writing, the company has already built additional 18 wastewater treatment facilities since its privatization in 2007, allowing it to treat about 502 million liters of wastewater as of September this year.

The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System commissioned Maynilad in 1997 to supply water in the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, made up of certain portions of the cities of Manila and Quezon; Makati City, specifically west of the South Super Highway; and Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, and Valenzuela cities.

It also services Cavite City; Bacoor and Imus cities; and Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario municipalities in Cavite Province.
