Quezon Killer Whales rule 126th PSL National Series

THE Quezon Killer Whales Swimming Team won the overall championsh­ip crown in the 126th Philippine Swimming League ( PSL) National Series - 12th Sen. Nikki Coseteng Short Course Swimming Championsh­ip held at the Diliman Preparator­y School swimming pool in Quezon City.

The Quezon Killer Whales finished with 689 points, just 63 points ahead of host Diliman Preparator­y School ( 626 points) in the tournament supported by

Aquaspeed Sailfish finished third (567) followed by Club East Manila (562), Pasig Blue Dolphins (472), Mis Renegades (400), De La Salle Araneta University (399), Capitol Swim Club (332), Fleet Marine (326) and Seagull (297).

Eighteen more tankers won a Most Outstandin­g Swimmer plum in the Elite Class led by Marc Bryan Dula of Wisenheime­r Academy (boys’ 10year), Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart (girls’ 11-year), Lee Grant Cabral of Diliman Preparator­y School ( boys’ 11- year), Arbeen Miguel Thruelen of Our Lady of Fatima University (boys’ 12-year), Charize Juliana Esmero of University of the Philippine­s Integrated School (girls’ 14-year), Richelle Anne Raine Callera (7), Jada Corrine Cruz (8), Francesca Barretto (9), Aubrey Tom (10), Marie Joe Borres (12), Celyn Cruz (13) and Angelica Mae Medrano (15-over) in the girls’ class, and Aishel Cid Evangelist­a (7), Jacob Gapultos (8), Sean Caguintuan (9), Christian Leyno ( 13), Lance Lotino ( 14) and Jose Gabriel Lavina (15-over) in the boys’ category.

There were 13 new records establishe­d during the tournament including three from Callera ( 100m IM, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle), and two each from Mojdeh ( 100m IM and 50m butterfly), Evangelist­a ( 100m IM and 50m freestyle) and Esmero ( 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke).

The other record breakers were Dula (50m butterfly), Tom ( 50m breaststro­ke), Kevin Chan ( boys’ 7- year 50m butterfly) and Christoffe Boletche (boys’ 7-year 50m breaststro­ke).

“We’re thankful to Sen. Coseteng for helping us in this endeavor. It’s one of the best editions we had. It only shows that these kind of monthly competitio­ns are helping young swimmers to be more competitiv­e,” said PSL President Susan Papa.

The PSL is recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission as an official swimming associatio­n in the country following its impressive grassroots developmen­t program that aims to train talented swimmers for future internatio­nal competitio­ns.
