Quezon Killer Whales rule 126th PSL National Series
THE Quezon Killer Whales Swimming Team won the overall championship crown in the 126th Philippine Swimming League ( PSL) National Series - 12th Sen. Nikki Coseteng Short Course Swimming Championship held at the Diliman Preparatory School swimming pool in Quezon City.
The Quezon Killer Whales finished with 689 points, just 63 points ahead of host Diliman Preparatory School ( 626 points) in the tournament supported by
Aquaspeed Sailfish finished third (567) followed by Club East Manila (562), Pasig Blue Dolphins (472), Mis Renegades (400), De La Salle Araneta University (399), Capitol Swim Club (332), Fleet Marine (326) and Seagull (297).
Eighteen more tankers won a Most Outstanding Swimmer plum in the Elite Class led by Marc Bryan Dula of Wisenheimer Academy (boys’ 10year), Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh of Immaculate Heart (girls’ 11-year), Lee Grant Cabral of Diliman Preparatory School ( boys’ 11- year), Arbeen Miguel Thruelen of Our Lady of Fatima University (boys’ 12-year), Charize Juliana Esmero of University of the Philippines Integrated School (girls’ 14-year), Richelle Anne Raine Callera (7), Jada Corrine Cruz (8), Francesca Barretto (9), Aubrey Tom (10), Marie Joe Borres (12), Celyn Cruz (13) and Angelica Mae Medrano (15-over) in the girls’ class, and Aishel Cid Evangelista (7), Jacob Gapultos (8), Sean Caguintuan (9), Christian Leyno ( 13), Lance Lotino ( 14) and Jose Gabriel Lavina (15-over) in the boys’ category.
There were 13 new records established during the tournament including three from Callera ( 100m IM, 50m butterfly and 50m freestyle), and two each from Mojdeh ( 100m IM and 50m butterfly), Evangelista ( 100m IM and 50m freestyle) and Esmero ( 100m butterfly and 100m backstroke).
The other record breakers were Dula (50m butterfly), Tom ( 50m breaststroke), Kevin Chan ( boys’ 7- year 50m butterfly) and Christoffe Boletche (boys’ 7-year 50m breaststroke).
“We’re thankful to Sen. Coseteng for helping us in this endeavor. It’s one of the best editions we had. It only shows that these kind of monthly competitions are helping young swimmers to be more competitive,” said PSL President Susan Papa.
The PSL is recognized by the Philippine Sports Commission as an official swimming association in the country following its impressive grassroots development program that aims to train talented swimmers for future international competitions.
