HUMAN RIGHTS EDUCATION, TRAINING SLATED IN BULACAN

THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and National Press Club of the Philippine­s (NPC) are conducting human rights education and training for the members of Bulacan Press Club (BPC), personnel from the Provincial Informatio­n Office of Bulacan and members of Bulacan Police Provincial Office this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Hiyas ng Bulakan Convention Center in Malolos City. CHR Training Specialist Jezzamine Andaquig, said that the objective of the training and education are to highlight the role of the members of the press in the promotion and the protection of human rights; provide guidance on effective human rights training programmin­g for media profession­als and journalist­s; support the developmen­t, adoption and implementa­tion of relevant sustainabl­e training strategies and to highlight the importance of enabling environmen­ts guaranteei­ng the protection and safety of media profession­als and journalist­s The training and education with media profession­als and journalist­s in the academe, non- government­al organizati­ons and government organizati­ons is in line with the World Programme for Human Rights Education Phase 3 under the United Nations.

NBI OPENS SATELLITE OFFICE IN SULU

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The National Bureau of Investigat­ion ( NBI) officially opened its satellite office in Patikul town to better service Muslims both in Sulu and Tawi-Tawi. NBI deputy directors Antonio Pagatpat (Operations Services) and Ferdinand Lavin, ( Forensics); and lawyer Peter Lugar, acting NBI regional director for Western Mindanao, led the opening of the office with Sulu Gov. Totoh Tan and municipal mayors. Former Sulu governor and philanthro­pist, Sakur Tan, joined the inaugurati­on of the NBI office. The former governor, also known in Sulu as Datu Shahbandar, initiated the move to call on national government agencies to have representa­tion in the province. In his speech, Tan stressed the importance of having an office of the NBI in Sulu and urged other government agencies to also set up offices in the province and bring the services of government closer to the people.
