Laguna state university hosts forum on global tourism, hospitality
THE Events Management Class BS Tourism 4A and 4B, EMC 2017 of the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) with Jerome R. Fernandez, faculty adviser, Bianca Dawn S. Sierra, events management chairman under CHTM Dean, Charmine V. Rivera, recently celebrated their 1st GLOCAL Trends of Hospitality and Tourism Industry of the New Millennium with this year’s theme, “Global and local culture: Honoring the past, treasuring the present and shaping the future” held at the Cultural Center of Laguna, in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The ceremony was opened by Dr. Nestor M. De Vera, LSPU president and guest of honor Michael Alexander M. Ang, honorary head of the Consular Mission of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the Philippines and the youngest Honorary Consul in the Philippines.
Other speakers were: Joel Pascual, president of Peptarsus Corp., publisher of World Food Magazine, president of Barron Engineering, president of Commissary Kitchen and vice president of PACEOS (Philippine Association of Convention/Exhibition Organizers and Suppliers), a former councilor and regional Tourism director; Rebecca Villanueva Labit; Alecks Ambayek, executive secretary of former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez; and David John D. Apigo, the first and only Filipino accredited by DOT as a Korean speaking guide, tour coordinator and training director.
Academic events are highly encouraged for students to develop their skills in conceptualizing and designing meetings, conventions and other kinds of events making them globally competitive. LSPU is the state university of Laguna, with four regular campuses and several auxiliary sites. The campuses are located in Bubukal in Santa Cruz, Del Remedios in San Pablo City, L. de Leon St. in Siniloan, Laguna, and Mayondon in Los Banos. The College of Hospitality Management and Tourism (CHTM) offers courses on Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management, Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant and Management.
