Cavite Balikbayan Day honors migrants and overseas Filipino organizations
TO celebrate the International Migrants day observed on the 18th day of December, the Provincial Social Welfare and Develop Cavite Overseas Filipino Welfare Council, recently held the Cavite Balikbayan Day at the Ceremonial Hall of the Provincial Capitol in Trece Martires City.
The highlight of the program is the recognition of Caviteño migrants and overseas Filipino organizations and their contribution to their communities. With more than 150 overseas Filipinos and migrants, the event also served as a venue to promote local products like the Maragondon Bamboo, Mendez’ Jacobina, GenTri’s Valenciana, Amadeo’s Coffee, Bacoor’s Tahong Chips, among others.
Likewise, tourist destinations - tential visitors and local tourist alike.
Meanwhile, recognizing the plight of families in exchange for overseas opportunities, a lecture on nurturing the OFW family was shared by Jade Hintay, director of Health Ministry Department in Cavite.
Board Member Kerby Salazar also shared his experience from an OF family and how it shaped his commitment to support programs that promote the welfare of OFs in Cavite. He urged the participants to focus on renewing and strengthening family relations in the spirit of the Christmas season.
Among the awardees who were recognized were the Cavite International Seafarers Association thru its president, Mario Medina; Cavite OFW Federation represented by its president, Teodorico Pagkaliwangan; the Diocese of Imus Migrants Ministry with Rosary Charity Rosello, Diocesan Lay Coordinator; Teodoro Malimban of Emilio Aguinaldo ( Bailen) and the Caviteños Association of Southern California; and the Emedia OFW People’s Organization in Bacoor.
