CEBU PACIFIC CANCELS FLIGHTS AT TACLOBAN AIRPORT

CEBU Pacific and Cebgo flights to and from the Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City were cancelled on Wednesday and may extended until this Thursday because of the ongoing repairs of the degraded runway surface. Repairs to the runway have been hampered by ongoing poor weather. Cebu Pacific and Cebgo flights will resume as soon as ongoing repairs return the runway surface to a suitable condition. Ticket holders are advised to monitor Cebu Pacific website or contact hotline at +632 7020-888 or visit Facebook page (facebook.com/cebupacifi­cair) or Twitter (@CebuPacifi­cAir) for further details. Affected passengers were also advised to re-route to the nearest alternate airports; rebook at a later travel date within 30 days, free of charge; get a full refund; or place the cost of the ticket in a travel fund for future use.

CEBU POLICEMEN IN HOT WATER FOR ABANDONING PRECINCT

POLICEMEN assigned at the Toledo City Police Station are under investigat­ion after the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director found out there was only one policeman on-duty at the police station last Sunday. Senior Supt. Edgar Alan Okubo, CPPO director, told The Manila Times he gave order to conduct an investigat­ion on why there was only one policeman on-duty. He also order the relief of Senior Police Officer 4 Henry Acosta, Chief Executive Senior Police Officer (CESPO) of Toledo Police Station. Supt. Melbert Glade Esguerra, CPPO deputy director for administra­tion, said they will conduct investigat­ion and the policemen will be sanctioned. Esguerra said the station has more than 50 policemen and there should be a desk officer and a jailer to man the detainees.

EX- POLICE OFFICER KILLED, ASSASSIN GUNNED DOWN AS WELL

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna: A retired police officer was killed on Tuesday by a lone gunman who also died after the victim fought back. Supt. Sancho Celedio, city police chief, identified the victim as retired Senior Police Officer 1 Renato Opeña. Opeña was in his compound at Purok 9, Barangay Uno here when the suspect appeared and shot him several times. Despite his wounds, Opeña fired back hitting the suspect. The two were dead on arrival at Calamba Medical Center. Opeña, a bookies operator, survived an ambushed six years ago. Investigat­ors have yet to identify the suspect.
