Horticultu­re group asks QC Mayor to declare Feb. as ‘Horticultu­re Month’

THE Philippine Horticultu­re Society is asking Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista to include their annual Hortikultu­ra Filipina event that is being held yearly at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

According to Nelson Cabangon, member of the organizing committee of Hortikultu­ra Filipina 2018, the group will pitch the idea to Mayor Bautista although there has been an initial talk with the city’s tourism department regarding the matter.

The 42 year- old Philippine Horticultu­re Society chooses Quezon City, also known as the Green City, due to the advocacy of the local government unit, which is in line with protecting and preserving the environmen­t.

“We would like the event to become a part of the Quezon City calendar, so that’s why we are proposing it to Quezon City. We want to transform also the Quezon memorial Circle into a garden destinatio­n,” said Cabangon.

The society wants Quezon City to declare the month of February as Horticultu­re Month and with the promotion of medical tourism because of the various hospitals in the city.

Last year the participan­ts showcased its plants at

inside the Que- Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales inside the Quezon Memorial Circle zon Memorial Circle but this year they were allowed to use four gardens ( with six hectares visited Hardin ng mga Bulaklak width) and the Quezon City Experience Museum for their exhibits and painting competitio­n.
