MEXICO CITY: An indigenous woman who is running for president of Mexico was injured on Wednesday and a member of her campaign was killed when the van transporting them ran off the road, her party said. The accident happened in a remote region of the state of Baja California Sur. A statement from the National Indigenous Congress said Maria de Jesus Patricio and councilwoman Lucero Islava were injured. Another councilman was “very badly” injured, it said. It did not specify what kind of injuries he sustained. Also, a woman who worked on the campaign was killed in the accident, it said. Patricio has apparently broken her left arm and is being airlifted to the state capital La Paz, said state health minister Victor George Flores. President Enrique Peña Nieto sent his sympathies. Patricio has been touring the country trying to collect the signatures needed to become the first indigenous woman ever to make it onto the presidential ballot in Mexico.

NO TERROR LINK IN NSA SHOOTING INCIDENT – FBI

WASHINGTON, D.C.: Three people were arrested and several hurt on Wednesday when a car crashed through the entrance of the National Security Agency outside Washington, but the incident had no link to terror, the FBI said. The vehicle’s driver, an NSA policeman and a bystander were hurt as gunfire erupted when the black SUV plowed through the gate and into concrete barriers at the main NSA entrance in Fort Meade, Maryland. Video footage from the site showed multiple gunshot holes in the windshield of the SUV, and apparent blood on the ground outside the NSA, the premier US electronic spying agency. FBI Special Agent in Charge Gordon Johnson told reporters that there is no indication that the attack has nexus to terrorism and that they believe that it was an isolated incident. The three men who had been in the vehicle were all in custody, with the driver sent to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Johnson gave no information on his condition, but said none of the injuries were believed to be gunshot wounds. The NSA policeman and the bystander were also sent to hospital, with their injuries described as “not life-threatening.”
