US naval officers removed for personal misconduct

TOKYO: The US Navy said on Friday it had removed three senior of - sonal misconduct,” after one was reportedly found wandering the base drunk and naked.

The navy did not disclose the details of the February 12 incident, but the Navy Times reported that Gabbard was relieved of duty after “being discovered in the woods wearing only his boots.”

“When there are any indication­s that those values are not being followed, we conduct appropriat­e investigat­ions and take action as necessary.”

Okinawa hosts the bulk of some and their presence has been a source of friction with some local residents.

The prefecture was the site of a major World War II battle that was followed by a 27-year US occupation of the island, and it would serve as a launch pad for any American military activity in Asia.
