PHLPost to release stamp for Ilocos Sur’s 200th anniversary
THE Philippine Postal Corporation ( PHLPost) will issue commemorative stamps to mark the 200 years anniversary of the province of locos Sur.
PHLPost Assistant Postmaster General for Marketing and Management Support Services Luis Carlos (left), League of Provinces of the Philippines Governor and National President Ryan Luis Singson ( center), and Province of Ilocos Sur Vice Governor Jeremias Singson ( right) have presented the Ilocos Sur 200 year bicentennial commemorative stamps, which showcase the beauty and rich culture of the province in ceremonies held at the provincial capitol.
The province is famous for its national shrine, historic landmark, heritage museums, ancestral houses and cobble- stoned streets that attract thousands of tourists every year.
PHLPost also issued a special set of block of four stamps and a souvenir sheet with two circular stamps. The said stamps feature six colorful circular designs and illustrations of some of the wellknown tourist attractions, which summarizes the beauty and grandeur of Ilocos Sur.
The historic Calle Crisologo, a major tourist attractions in Vigan - es is also included in the stamp.
One of the major tourist attractions is the Sta. Maria Church, one of the four baroque churches in the Philippines and declared as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1993. It was built in 1810 on a narrow hill by a defensive wall overlooking the town’s poblacion.
The stamp also highlights the historic Bessang Pass Natural Monument, a protected area and memorial that commemorates the victory on June 14, 1945 by Filipino soldiers serving the U.S. Armed Forces in the Philippines Northern Luzon over the imperial Japanese Army.
