Chevron joins ScholaRUN to send underprivi­leged students to school

ALMOST 200 employees of Chevron Philippine­s Inc. (CPI), marketer of Caltex fuels and lubricants, recently joined the 7th Amcham ScholaRUN, an annual fund-raising initiative of the American Chamber of Commerce Foundation Philippine­s, Inc. (ACCFPI), held at Central Park, SM Seaside Complex, Pasay City.

Around 3000 participan­ts, – consisting of employees from ACCFPI member companies – gathered at 5:00 am to raise funds for AmCham Scholars for 2018. Participan­ts can choose from; 3km track for P550, 5km track for P600 and 10km track for P650; with running kits and a medal upon

Starting 1986 and every years since, ACCFPI has been giving scholarshi­ps to high school, college and vocational students in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Through the support of member companies, scholars are given free tuition fees, uniforms, subsistenc­e allowances, school supplies and project fees, up until their OJT and employment assistance. To date, the program has already helped about over 2000 scholarshi­p youths graduate and secure gainful employment. A number of former-scholars are now employees of reputable Filipino and

“It started as a concept idea to raise fund to get more scholars. It has become a trademark of the American Chamber of foundation. A lot of people have worked very hard to put this event together. It’s quite an event by having around 3000 runners and I feel very proud. The presence and participat­ion of our partners creates electricit­y and popularity to the event; which goes a long way towards helping us fund more and more scholars.” Said Edwin Feist, President of the American Chamber of Commerce.

CPI, through its partnershi­p with the American Chamber of Commerce, and other social investment programs gives back to the community by supporting the future leaders of the society by providing access to livelihood training and education.
