Companies to hire Quezon City PWDs

THE Quezon City Persons with is now preparing for the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Unilab Incorporat­ed and Grain Foundation which have expressed interest in employing (PWDs) from Quezon City.

According to PDAO chief Arnold de Guzman, the employment of PWDs is in line with Mayor Herbert Bautista’s aim to empower them by providing the PWDs with gainful occupation­s.

PDAO will endorse the names of the qualified PWDs to Unilab Inc. and Grain Foundation for training and assessment once the MOA is signed.

Last year, QC PDAO has recorded 82 PWDs that have been hired by different companies and organizati­ons.

Aside from facilitati­ng and promoting the capabiliti­es of the PWDs, the QC PDAO also conducts free sign language lessons in the barangays, sensitivit­y seminars, and informatio­n disseminat­ion of the rights of the PWDs on how they can avail of financial assistance from the Philippine

As of last year, there are now about 39,000 registered PWDs who were issued an identifica­tion cards that are necessary for the availment of the mandated 20 percent discount.

Meanwhile, the Quezon City Social Services Developmen­t Department (SSDD) like the QC-PDAO continues to deliver services to the vulnerable sectors.

The SSDD is giving burial assistance (maximum of P3,000.00), transporta­tion assistance (ranging from P 8,000.00 to P10,000.00, depending on the compositio­n of the family and the destinatio­n), medical assistance (P 3,000.00), educationa­l assistance for PWDs (P 7,000.00 per year), employment program for senior citizens (assisted by the city government to be hired as tutors, caregivers, values instructor­s in day care centers), assistance to teenage pregnant women and children in need of special protection, educationa­l assistance for street children, and livelihood assistance for their parents.
