Tumana-Malanday Creek Rehab to benefit over 10,000 households

-

PASIG River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) Executive Director Jose Antonio Goitia, Marikina City Mayor Marcelino Teodoro, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI) Susanna Rachel Afan, Sun Life Foundation, Inc. Executive Director Kristine Dianne Millete, and Bantay Kalikasan Program Director Jen Santos led the first day of the construction of the 700-linear-meter Tumana-Malanday Creek Linear Park on March 13, 2018.

Also known as Palay Creek, the construction of the said linear park is just one aspect of a comprehensive rehabilitation project, which includes information, education, and communication campaigns on solid waste management, training of new River Warriors, and livelihood program for the communities around it.

The Tumana-Malanday Creek is part of the Marikina River system, which is a major tributary of the Pasig River.

“This rehabilitation means we are saving more than 10,000 households from the risks of the deadly Executive Director Goitia.

PRRC also adopted low impact development ( LID) approach in the design of the linear park for the cost- effective management of stormwater.

He stressed that contrary to the term, LID would highly impact the Tumana-Malanday Creek linear park.

“The linear park will capture and divert the storm water for reuse and recreational activities of the public like urban gardening,” he further explained.
