Moms of the modern age

-

CHALK it up to the digital age, but motherhood is more popular and talked about than ever before. There are “mompreneurs” who are selling and even making products especially for moms and their kids. Then there are young celebrities have taken their motherhood to social media. “Mommy blog- gers,” who have both encouraged their fellow moms and have blown the secrets of motherhood wide open by sharing their experiences and frank confessions on their own struggles, are also on the rise.

There is not a hard and fast way to be a mom, and labels just don’t cut it. There are moms who breastfeed, moms who bottle feed; moms who co-sleep, moms who have a baby monitor in their nurseries; all-organic moms, fast food moms; moms who say no to gadgets, moms who depend on the iPad or phone for their sanity; moms who work, moms who stay at home; moms who have nannies, and moms who can multitask and do everything on her own. Moreover, there are single moms who date, and single moms who want to focus on their kids for now, and all the moms who fall under these categories one time or another. As such, “SMILF,” the new series now streaming on Fox+, could not come any timelier.

Moms, especially single moms, would be able to relate or laugh or just shake their heads at this funny, sexy, and some-times too real drama of motherhood. The show centers on Bridgette Bird who navigates her way through life as a young single mother in all of its messy and complicated glory. SMILF promises to be a relatable show to the modern moms who are perfectly imperfect.
