Farewell, Jae Alde

-

JAE Alicia Guinevere C. Alde met her “deadline” on earth at the age of 21 on Monday, two weeks before she could finish a journalism degree.

Alde, a graduating student at The Manila Times College ( TMTC), had an accident on Friday night while hanging out with schoolmates on the riverside in Intramuros, Manila.

While her two companions – Armando Miguel Dumlao and Lance Librorania – were waiting for their ride home, Alde sat on the steps by the Pasig River. Librorania said Alde was tired and sleepy after working the previous night in a call center and attending her classes during the day.

Alde apparently fell asleep, lost her balance, and fell into the murky water.

Dumlao tried to rescue Alde, but the strong current dragged them more than 50 meters toward the Manila Bay. A security guard managed to take them out of the water.

Librorania’s cry for help caught the attention of another security guard who called a Red Cross ambulance that brought Alde to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH).

Attending physicians at the PGH emergency ward told Alde’s relatives and friends on Saturday that the patient lost too much oxygen and swallowed too much water that accumulated in her lungs.

Alde needed to be confined in an intensive critical unit (ICU) on Sunday but the PGH was full so she was transferred to the Perpetual Medical Center in Las Piñas City where she died hours later.

She is survived by her parents Jennifer and Joedennis; and younger siblings Jericho Irvin, Jarod Kyle, Jean Ethan, Jewel Ann Charlotte and Noor.

Her remains lie at the Jacinto Chapel, Paz Memorial Chapels at the entrance of the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City. Interment will be at 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 2.

The Manila Times College and TheManila Times deeply mourn Jae Alde’s passing.
