Radicalized patriotism and power play

-

RADICALIZED patriotism and power play are political ideas that may prove combustible in the days to come. Although both sides claim “love of country” as their main advocacy, we now see rallies in the streets protesting oppression of human rights on one side and voices decrying interference in the country’s democratic principles on the other side.

“Checks and balances” and “separation of church and state” are often used to justify actions that oftentimes leave us dumbfounded, wondering what the discourse is all about.

I am deeply mystified by the relief of NCRPO Chief Camilo Cascolan just more than a month after his appointment. How can his performance be measured in just four weeks, given that most of his time was spent on orientation and formulating policy directives?

This is aside from the fact that he ably supervised keeping the peace in the recent barangay and SK elections.

Or was his dismissal an issue of politics and lobbying? Did he step on the ego of someone close to the leadership?

I have no quarrel with the police hierarchy but I expect a fair, just and timely assessment of the operations before any reshuffle takes place. Is it all about loyalty to one man or loyalty to the flag and the public that they should serve?

The world wo u l d be a much better place to live in if Putin stopped playing Iron Man, Trump stopped playing Captain America, Xi Jinping stopped playing Thor, and Kim Jong- un stopped playing The Hulk. We would be “AVENGED” from tragedies and S. H. I. E. L. D. E. D from all kinds of miseries and dangers.

The Senate will summon Abad, Garin and Padilla regarding the alleged diversion of P10.6 billion in funds intended for the health insurance premiums of senior citizens. This will surely be hazardous to their health.

Senate defers acting on Sereno’s impeachment. I think this refers to giving more time to her “acting.”

*** Robredo: “I won the VP race but don’t have plans to replace Duterte.” This is another “Yeah, right” statement. I have heard that line before when she was a congresswoman being offered to run for the vice presidency. The reason given for her accepting the offer was that “she just wanted to save the party.”

Today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday.

*** Roseanne canceled. Somebody suggested to keep the show without her. so what should be the title? “Without Roseanne?” Duh.

The Supreme Court DID NOT impeach a chief justice. They booted her out for being UNQUALIFIED. So what POWER of the Senate did they usurp?

When I was young, I used to watch debates and deliberations in the upper chamber’s plenary and I remember the senators then: Diokno, Primicias, Sumulong, Tolentino, Recto, Tañada,
