SINCE 2002, SM Foundation, Inc. (SMFI) continues to ensure the health and well-being of those in communities where they have business presence through Felicidad Sy Wellness Centers.

“We adopt and rehabilitate old and dilapidated government health facilities and hospital wards and turn them into Felicidad Sy Wellness Centers. These are community health centers, Pediatric and Neonatal hospital wards, senior citizen centers and hospice units. We have also extended our assistance to the AFP and the PNP by renovating and improving their health facilities,” Connie Angeles noted.

One of their bigger beneficiaries is the AFP Medical Center in V. Luna, Quezon City where SMFI adopted the Heroes and the Convalescence Wards. During a visit to the latter,

was able to interview two heroes whose bravery and service to the country unfortunately led them to injuries.

Cpl. Renato Eucogco, who was in service for more than seven years, was among the thousands of soldiers sent to Marawi during the siege of the Islamic State. In one of his team’s clearing operations, Eucogco and two other comrades Two of the many brave soldiers recuperating at the AFP Medical Center’s Heroes Ward: Sgt. Rogelio Ombion, Jr. (center) and Cpl. Renato Eucogco

unfortunately came across an improvised explosive device. This event led to Eucogco losing his two legs.

While waiting for the donation of two artificial legs, Eucogco is gaining his strength back at the donated facility.

“OK dito, maskumportableatmaaliwalas,” the wounded hero smilingly told TheSunday

Sgt. Rogelio Ombion, Jr. was fortunate to leave he battle unscathed. However, when he was assigned to Jolo, Sulu earlier this year, and barely a month after tying the knot, Ombion came face-to-face with rebels.
