Kaya-Ceres rematch ends in draw

- JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA

KAYA FC-Iloilo and Ceres Negros FC notched late goals as the bitter rival clubs awaited clash ended in a 1-1 draw, in the Philippines Football League (PFL) 2018 on Saturday at the Iloilo Sports Complex.

Homegrown hero Shirmar Felongco delivered the equalizer to nullify Mike Ott’s goal in their third tussle this season.

Kaya Iloilo kept an unbeaten slate in three games at its home stadium and denied Ceres Negros of a revenge win for its lone loss.

The Lions also snapped the Busmen’s four- game winning streak.

Inaugural champion Ceres though stayed on top of the sixteam standings with 29 points on nine wins and two draws.

Kaya, on the other hand, remained second with 23 points on a 7-2-3 win- draw-loss record.

Despite being reduced to ten men following Omid Nazari’s sendoff in the final 10 minutes, the visiting Negrenses broke the scoreless deadlock, as Ott rifled in Patrick Reichelt’s cross in the 84th minute.

The Ilonggos pulled level just two minutes later after a sneaky Felongco exploited a clearance mistake by the Ceres, sending the home crowd to a celebration.

Meanwhile, Davao Aguilas FC returned to the win column as it trounced JPV Marikina FC, 3-0, in a match that was largely abandoned by the crowd due to the inclement weather at the Biñan Football Stadium in Laguna.

Goals from national team standouts Phil and James Younghusband as well as Dennis Villanueva sealed the team’s victory at Biñan. The victory halted Aguilas’ four- game losing slide.

Davao solidified its hold of No. 3 with 17 points on a 5-2-6 card while JPV Marikina stayed at No. 5 with 10 markers on a 3-1-8 record.
