2 suspects in US Marine slay fall

THE National Bureau of Investigation has captured two suspects tagged in the killing of United States Marines Major George Anikow in November 2012.

Galicano Datu 3rd and Crispin de la Paz were arrested in separate operations in Marikina City and Mandaluyong City on June 12 and 14, respectively. The operations were carried out by the NBI’s International Operations Division with the help of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Embassy.

NBI Director Dante Gierran said the suspects went into hiding after a Warrant of Arrest was released against them on April 18.

Datu and de la Paz are facing charges of homicide for stabbing Anikow to death after an argument at a security checkpoint in Bel-Air Subdivision, Makati City. The two were given provisional liberty after posting P300,000 bail each in 2013.

The US Embassy in Manila welcomed the arrests of the two suspects.

“We appreciate the cooperation of Philippine law enforcement authorities in locating and apprehending the perpetrators,” the embassy said in a statement.

Datu’s uncle Jimmy Boy David was also arrested for trying to stop his nephew’s arrest. David faces charges for violating Presidential Decree 1829 which penalizes the obstruction of apprehension and prosecution of criminal offenders.
