Current generation cars now employ the “drive by wire” technology, which is more reliable and are linked to sensors in the gas pedal. As you depress the accelerator, it sends a signal to the ECU, which then decodes that signal that in turn is directed to the throttle body. Despite this innovation, there are noticeable delays or lags in the process, resulting to slower engine response and acceleration. The driver feels this lag during overtaking, downshifting, uphill driving, and in city driving.

To counter this frustrating and sometimes dangerous phenomena, Drift XAUST systems have come up with the Speed Booster technology. This technology addresses the problem by amplifying and creating a much stronger signal, enabling the throttle body to respond three times faster than the stock “drive by wire” system. The end result will make your vehicle accelerate faster. “It is the most affordable performance upgrade in the local market today. Its origins come from Japan, but I had to come up with a system for local use since the Japanese model is only for speed. The Speed Booster has four settings depending on your driving requirement,” said GM Bugayong, president of Drift Xaust.

The Speed Booster is also easy to install, all it takes is unplugging the stock gas pedal sensor and connecting it to the Speed Booster. Actual test of a sedan resulted in an improvement of

its elasped time ( ETA) of 10 seconds from 0 to 100 kph, to an amazing 0.5 seconds or a new ETA of 9.5 seconds. The Speed Booster can also be adjusted to suit your driving requirements. An ECO, Normal, Power, and Sport mode button is all it takes to improve your car’s response and acceleration. It also comes with a safety Lock feature to prevent thieves or your kids from driving your car. Priced at P12,000, the Speed Booster is a plug and play gadget that enhances the acceleration of your vehicle. “It will not provide additional horsepower, but it will remove the lag of your automatic transmission vehicle,” added Bugayong.

To prove how the Speed Booster works, Bugayong had our personal vehicles “boosted” and we drove to a hilly portion of Cainta where we were able to test if the lag was really eliminated as we drove through the uphill and long stretches of pavement. I was driving my Hyundai Accent, and to my amazement, I immediately felt the improvement as my 1.4-liter Accent steadily climbed up a stretch of cemented road without the lag. It was simply amazing.

Bugayng also revealed that he has already sold 300 units of the Speed Booster, which he installed in diesel/ gas powered SUVs, subcompacts like the Mitsubishi Mirage, Toyota Vios, Hyundai Accents/ EON, and Kia Rio sedans.
