Streaking Ceres Negros routs JPV Voltes in PFL

- JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA

CAPITALIZING on a strong first half, Ceres Negros FC thrashed JPV Marikina FC, 4-1, to stretch its lead in the 2018 Philippines Football League (PFL) on Wednesday night at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

The Yellow Busmen immediately asserted their mastery by striking thrice in the first 45 minutes.

Ceres Negros improved to 35 points on an 11- 2- 1 win- draw- loss record despite losing one player in the second half.

“It’s not easy playing with one player less,” said Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic. “I’m proud of my players because it’s not easy playing against them and they gave everything in every game.”

Mike Ott and Stephan Shrock hit two early goals for the Negrenses before Keigo Moriyasu notched one for the visiting Marikeños.

Patrick Reichelt restored a two-goal lead in the last minute of the opening half when he tapped in Shrock’s brilliant pass.

Ceres was reduced to ten men prior to the restart with OJ Porteria and JPV Marikina mentor Dan Padernal getting sent off after a heated confrontation during the break.

But that did not slow down the Busmen, as Shrock completed his brace in the 54th to seal their fourth win against JPV and their second in a row.

With the defeat, JPV Marikina’s winless run extended to four games. The Voltes were left stuck at No. 5 with 10 points for a 3-1-10 slate.

Earlier at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila, Davao Aguilas FC pulled off a 3-1 stunner over Kaya FCIloilo to post its third straight victory.

Davao Aguilas and Kaya Iloilo are now tied with 23 points apiece but the latter remained No. 2 because of a superior goal difference.

Over at the Biñan Football Stadium, Stallion Laguna FC routed Global Cebu FC 4- 0.

The Stallions bounced back from a 0-5 loss to Davao as they hiked their tally to 18 points on seven wins against six setbacks.

The People’s Club, on the other hand, remained at the cellar with only four points to show for a dismal 1-1-9 card.
