Republic Cement taps Aboitiz Constructi­on

REPUBLIC Cement and Building Materials, Inc. has commission­ed affiliate Aboitiz Constructi­on, Inc. to provide structural and mechanical works for two projects located in Bulacan and Cebu.

Aboitiz Constructi­on said over the weekend that it had signed contracts for work including leading a 730-man team at the Bulacan site and managing fabricatio­n at the Balamban shop in Cebu.

“Much is expected by Republic Cement, and so we aim to do this right and on schedule. We will be able to accomplish this with everyone’s support and cooperatio­n,” Aboitiz Constructi­on President and Chief Operating a statement.

Republic Cement is studying initiative­s to improve clinker and cement capacity for its plants in Teresa and Batangan and cement production in Iligan.

“Our investment activities are geared towards ensuring the stable supply of constructi­on materials in support of the Philippine government’s ‘ Build, Build, Build’ campaign. Ultimately, our goal is to help build a stronger Republic,” Republic Cement Services, Inc. President Nabil Francis said.

Republic Cement is a joint venture between Irish building materials group CRH and Aboitiz Equity Ventures, a Philippine conglomera­te. It operates cement plants in Norzagaray, Bulacan; Taysan, Batangas; Teresa, Rizal; Kiwalan, Iligan City; and Danao City, Cebu.

Aboitiz Constructi­on is the constructi­on arm of the Aboitiz Group. In December last year, it signed a memorandum of agreement with Philippine Resins Industries, Inc. ( PRII) for the capacity expansion of PRII’s polyvinyl chloride resin plant in Bataan.

Earlier this month, it also announced that it has bagged a contract to design and build the new facilities of Australian shipbuilde­r Austal Philippine­s Pty. Ltd. in Balamban, Cebu.
