The Manila Times Lecture series launched to inspire future journalists
WITH hopes of inspiring the next generation of journalists and media workers, TheManilaTimes, in cooperation with TheManilaTimes College, launched the The Manila Times Lecture Series on Tuesday, 10 June, at the TMTC Multi-Purpose Hall at the Ground Floor of Sitio Grande Building in Intramuros, Manila.
The Lecture Series will feature veteran journalists who will share their stories and experiences in the fields of their expertise with journalism students and others aspiring to work in media. Admission is free.
Some 43 high school and college students from different academic institutions in Metro Manila, Cavite and Rizal attended the first lecture on Tuesday with Steven Pabalinas, a multi-award winning media artist and political cartoonist who had won special citations for his published work at TheManilaTimes.
Pabalinas shared tips and techniques in editorial cartooning with his audience, and encouraged participants to come up with ideas for cartooning with a political theme in a 30-minute workshop. The themes were on the Philippine- China territorial dispute, the “stupid” God remark of president Rodrigo Duterte and Philippine economy.
Participants came from the University of Santo Tomas, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, De La Salle UniversityDasmariñas, Trece Martires City National High School, Sienna College of Taytay, Asia Pacific College, St. Scholastica’s College and University of Perpetual Help System DALTA-Las Piñas.
