Ceres, Davao clash in crucial PFL match

- JEREMIAH M. SEVILLA

CERES Negros FC sustains its pursuit of a second consecutive crown as it tackles the retooled Davao Aguilas FC in the 2018 Philippines Football League ( PFL) today at the Davao Del Norte Sports Complex in Tagum City.

The Yellow Busmen, who are nearing their second- season reign in the domestic top flight league, meet the Aguilas for the fourth time at 4 p. m.

After a 1- 0 win over rival Kaya FC- Iloilo, inaugural champion Ceres Negros moved just 10 points away from a second PFL title.

Patrick Reichelt scored the lone goal in the 15th minute then Spanish goalkeeper Toni Doblas delivered to keep the team's clean sheet in the previous outing.

The Risto Vidakovic-mentored Busmen still lead the six-club league with a 14-3-2 win-draw-loss record for 45 points, 12 markers ahead of the second-running Lions.

The Negrenses are bent on dominating the Davaoeños anew after winning all their three encounters.

But Davao Aguilas are eager to stay in the running for the domestic trophy. However, they need to defeat Ceres and hope that the Visayan powerhouse squad will falter in its remaining matches.

The No. 3 Aguilas eye to end a two- game winless run and hike their 24 points on a 7- 3- 7 slate.

Davao recently beefed up its lineup by signing former Global Cebu FC players Patrick Deyto, Marco Casambre and Wesley Dos Santos along with Ray Joseph Joyel, Julian Clarino and Brazilian forward Diego Alves.

But coach Melchor Anzures can only utilize the new signings after the next transfer window.

Meanwhile, Stallion Laguna FC and JPV Marikina FC clash in their fourth tussle this season at 4 p. m. at the Biñan Football Stadium.

Already out of the championship race, the Stallions and the Voltes collide for a decent position.

Stallion Laguna currently stands at No. 4 with 18 points on seven wins against nine losses while JPV Marikina sits at No. 5 with 14 markers on a 4-2-11 card.
