Duque explained that through Malasakit centers, a patient who cannot pay his hospital bill beyond what Philhealth can offer, such as cases of cancer or renal disease needing transplant, can ask for financial assistance from the PCSO or DoH through its Medical Assistance to Indigent Patients Program.

Among the hospitals being eyed to have Malasakit Centers are the East Avenue Medical Center and Rizal Medical Center.
