How the Petron Mabuhay Independence Rally was won

-

L(Conclusion)

AST week, I gave the conditions in which our Petron Mabuhay Independence Rally was run. Mother Nature played a big role in the rally’s postponement and an impassable road that necessitated a route change that caused a lot of chaos. However, it wasn’t all bad.

We were fortunate that the postponement freed up the schedule of a lot of people, especially the Governor of Cavite, Boying Remulla, who co-hosted the event and showed us the wonderful historical sights of our Philippine Revolution that led to our Independence.

Let us now trace how the Mabuhay Rally was won by a wholesome and serious family that is a big force in our Time Speed Distance Rally. - eryone understood it. To compound the problem, our marshals also failed to give proper timing and instructions on how to get to the next checkpoint. One team, Stuart Samson’s Mini Team, had to open his cell phone and call us to get directions. Another one, Jeff Soberon’s Subic Team, was on the verge of going home to Manila for they were hopelessly lost. Luckily, they found some lost teams and followed them to the right place.

Almost all the teams got lost so the stage was again cancelled and this was going to the Provincial Capitol, which was more than 20kms away. We had to declare that due to force majeure and our marshals’ mistake, we allowed the opening of the cell phone and will allow this in the future under these conditions.

Luckily, the rest of the route was fairly straightforward and only two teams missed a hidden checkpoint, Raul Tuason’s Kia Team and his wife, Jackie Tuason, in another car. This will prove to be major blunders as these teams will incur a lot of demerits and bring their standings down.
