Albert Martinez’ son is ‘ulirangapo’
IF there’s such a recognition as "Ulirang Apo" sa Showbiz, it should unanimously go to Alfonso Martinez.
Alfonso is the eldest grandson of erstwhile movie queen and Sampaguita Pictures actress Amalia Fuentes. He has been looking after her lola since she suffered an ischemic stroke while vacationing in South Korea in October 2015.
“Alfonso is now in his 30s, still a bachelor. Mula nung magkasakit ang Lola Nena (Amalia’s pet name), he moved out of their residence with his parents (Albert and the late Liezl) to stay and take care of his grandma. Practically, he’s the one running Amalia’a household (in New Manila, Quezon City),” the source tells Vignettes.
Our tipster is happy to note that the retired feisty actress is showing remarkable signs of convalescence albeit expectedly not as fast as any stroke patient would.
“Whenever she takes her meals now, hindi na katulad ng dati na sinusubuan pa siya. She does it on her own. Kapag kumakain naman sila sa labas, although she’s wheelchair-bound, kumakain siya on her own,” the source says of how Amalia’s regular therapy has been greatly helping her bounce back.
Probably the biggest blow to have befallen Amalia’s life was the death—eight months later—of her only child Liezl who succumbed to cancer. Two years later, her erstwhile off- and onscreen partner Romeo “Bobby” Vasquez, Liezl’s father, passed away.
