SOME 214 public schools across the Philippines are being equipped with information and technology ( ICT) tools and methodologies through the Global Filipino Schools ( GFS) program, which allows for more productive and innovative learning.

With Globe Telecom and the Department of Education (DepEd) as partners, the GFS program aims to promote 21st-century learning principles and ICT integration in public schools nationwide.

The initiative aims to help students gain more knowledge through the new ICT centers, which in turn may lead to excellent outcomes in creativity, communication, collaboration, and critical thinking.

“Through innovative teaching methods and integration of ICT in classrooms, teachers and school leaders can significantly increase the quality of learning in the public sector,” Yoly Crisanto, Chief Sustain

Ahead of their 2020 target, Globe and DepEd brought the program to all 17 regions in the Philippines, with nine schools in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao ( ARMM) as its most

The GFS program has given free internet connections to schools, as well as ICT tools such as tablets, projectors, pocket Wi–Fi devices, and even virtual reality (VR) goggles casting dongles, pocket wifi devices, and a mobile cart to strengthen ICT teaching and learning.

Under the GFS program, every school beneficiary will serve as a training hub for teachers in the DepEd division the school belongs to.

For ARMM, Globe envisions the participating schools to set an example on how technology can transform education to the 622 public elementary and secondary schools in nine schools divisions in teachers and over 800,000 students.

DepEd divisions and teaching representatives from selected public elementary and high schools also gathered for a four- day training workshop in Cotabato City, wherein each of the nine school divisions in ARMM was represented.

The workshop courses included one that focuses on virtual coaching, in order to help the participants with the mastery and applications of the learnings through the new technologies and approach.
