Stars confirm attendance in BMW Championship
Jason Day. THE field for the BMW Championship, the third of four playoff events for the FedEx Cup coming next month to Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, is starting to come into focus and after last week’s PGA Championship, that includes Tiger Woods.
After finishing second in the PGA and rising to No. 20 on the FedExCup points list, Woods, a five-time winner at the BMW Championship, is scheduled to appear at Aronimink and take part in the event for the first time since 2013.
“The FedExCup playoffs always produce a world- class field for the BMW Championship, but Tiger’s return to form makes this an especially exciting year for our event,” said Vince Pellegrino, senior vice president of tournaments for the Western Golf Association, which conducts the event. “We’re thrilled that Philadelphia-area golf fans will have the opportunity to see Tiger compete alongside Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and the game’s other superstars in three weeks at Aronimink.”
The BMW Championship, which features the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings following the previous weekend’s Dell Technologies Championship, runs from Sept. 6 through 9.
Woods won the event in 1997, 1999 and 2003 when it was known as the Western Open. After the tournament was renamed the BMW Championship, he added two more victories in 2007 and 2009.
Johnson, the No. 1 player in the world, and Koepka, the US Open and PGA champion, head a stellar field that includes Justin Thomas, Phil Mickelson and Bubba Watson, and former BMW Championship winners Justin Rose, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy.
