Lady Falcons, Maroons clash in PVL semis

-

TOP seed Adamson stakes its unbeaten slate as it faces University of the Philippines while No. 2 University of Santo Tomas tangles with Far Eastern University in a pair of explosive matches kicking off the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference semifinals at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan today.

But though they held off the Lady Maroons, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23, 26-24, in their elimination encounter last Aug. 12, the Lady Falcons remain wary of their rivals in their 2 p.m. clash at the start of their best-of-three series.

The Tigresses also gear up for a slam bang showdown with the Lady Tams in their side of the semis at 4 p.m., looking to duplicate their thrilling 25-15, 25-27, 25-18, 22-25, 15-11 escape over their third-ranked rivals in Cagayan de Oro City just last Saturday.

After an impressive elims campaign, AdU coach Air Padda hopes her charges would sustain their momentum and measure up anew against UP which, as she recalled, has showcased its “best game” in the conference against them.

“I know they (UP) are going to come out strong. I do feel the best game they ever played in the conference was against us. They gave us their best game,” said Padda, who will bank again on Eli Soyud, Bernadette Flora, setter MJ Igao and floor defender Tonnie Ponce.

The Lady Maroons, meanwhile, hope to ride on their last elims day victory over the San Beda Lady Red Spikers and come up with a big surprise over their highly fancied opponents in the mid-season conference of the league organized by Sports Vision.

UP veterans Isa Molde and Marian Buitre are expected to step up their respective games and draw solid backup from Aieshalaine Gannaban and Maristela Layug.
